Apology and Clarification

I want to apologize to anyone who found the preceding post too strong or were offended by its content. It was not my intention to offend anyone and I ask your forgiveness. Here in our community, in the middle of Lent, evil of the worst sort reared its ugly head and it was my intention to point out that there are many people in the world (especially children) who are at risk every day. There are also many people who willingly inflict harm on those entrusted to their care. My point was that we should pray for the innocents and do what we can to ease their burden. Again, I apologize and ask your forgiveness if you were offended.

I only know from my perspective what a sheltered life I live and have provided for our own children. In many ways my life has been blessed beyond comprehension. I was never abused as a child. It is all quite foreign to me personally although I know from the evening news it is "out there".

I am sorry that this information is offensive but I thank you for calling our attention to it in the heart of Lent because you are absolutely right the innocents need our prayers as we need our prayers.

May the Lord have mercy on the little ones who have suffered such horrific evils. And may He grant healing to their tormenters.

Kyrie Eleison, Kyrie Eleison, Kyrie Eleison.

November,

I found the things you described disturbing, but was glad that you raised the issue. Physical, sexual and emotional abuse are ubiquitous. Everyone who read your blog was either already touched by such abuse personally or someone close to him or her has been. We must not hide this reality, which causes victims to feel alone, or worse responsible for the abuse.

It is best to drag such problems into the light. Jesus says, "There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known." Revealing the abuse in your own life and the ongoing effects it has had on your life is an important way of encouraging others to drag the incovenient truths of their own personal history into the light where true healing can begin.

And you also pointed us toward standing up for defenseless children. Painful. But nothing for which you need to apologize.

peace,

I agree with Frank. You have nothing to apologize for. Knowledge and education are the only way to combat this type of predation. Having been molested as a 16-year-old, it was, and still is, a major goal of mine to ensure that my 16-year-old daughter makes it to adulthood unmolested. The wounds may heal but the scars remain forever as anyone who has been abused in any way, physically, emotionally or sexually can testify.

Memory Eternal! Child of God Christopher!
Occasionally we do lose our peace, our Lord did too, when the cause was right, this cause if just.
Our prayers are with you, Christopher and his family and all of those who are touched by violence.
It is truly a fallen world and we must work hard to love one another, even those who do the violence.
May the spirit of forgiveness be in our hearts always and let us work to eradicate such evil from the face of the earth.
Christ is in our midst!
the handmaid,
Mary-Leah
